Mike calls this Brazilian soapstone carving 'Soaring Olympic.' Consider that this is a single stone (including the base) and, although it looks like a piece of rock with the top glued on - it is not. You don't have to be a carver to know something like this didn't happen in a hurry. You might ask; "Did Mike start with a vision, or did it come out of his head as he went along?" Give it to the man, he does have a powerful imagination. Turns out there was a direction alright, inspired by Mike's glider flying experience. There's a glider perched on top of this piece, and how it comes to differ in colour has to do with the polishing. The texturing from one element to another is also worth noting: highly polished glider; semi-smooth base under the plane (representing the wind currents); base carved to look like rock (the earth). Currently available. Vitals: 20cm (8") wide; 20cm (8") deep; 50 cm (19.75") tall.
