"The Wet Coast Reflections"If you look closely, you will see a hidden image of another sea lion in the carved rock detail. Sometimes in nature you can see images or "faces" in rock formations due to the way it has formed or weathered. Often, these images will change or disappear completely with different lighting or when viewed from a different angle. The image in this carving can only be seen from one angle, but when you see it at the right angle it shows up like a reflection of the sea lion basking in the sun. There are also a few starfish carved into the rock to make it authentic west coast. In this work, Mike Tyler represents the Sea Lion in a single piece of Brazilian soapstone.
