Mounted Salmon

This is a carving of a Pacific salmon in Brazilian soapstone by Mike Tyler. Pacific salmon belong to the genus Oncorhynchus (from Greek, meaning “hooked snout”). While the five species of Pacific salmon all share a general outward resemblance, they vary in size, flesh colour, and flavour. For thousands of years, the history, economy and culture of Canada's west coast have been inextricably linked to Pacific salmon. Salmon are a frequent subject of Mike's carvings and sculpturing and are available in soapstone and bronze.
